Abstract Emotions : Știlștand / Stillstand
Art Museum Craiova, Jean Mihail Palace
9.03 / 9.04.2023
Știlștand is the phonetic transliteration of the German word Stillstand, signaling the silencing of an evident activity: an engine, a mechanism is no longer functioning or does not give the impression to do so. Normality is blocked, suspended, deferred – from
now on, the only persistent state is inertia, the blockage, the inhibition, the giving up, the expectation and stagnation.
Under febrility there is passivity, an impossible progress: paralysis have suspended the sense. The will works in vain, attention is diverted, broken into pieces. Under the disguise of a future order, reality falls into gasping abyss. Its huge shadow overlaps
the silence, the guilt, the gripped thoughts, the nonsense of expressing the sense. Maps with marks of life now show ruins and victims.
This is a walking stand down: the sublime character of BEATRICE von BABEL.
The exhibition at the Art Museum Craiova is unprecedented in the local curatorial practice. It has no author and no curator. It is a labyrinthine, dynamic merging of diverse artistic concepts and techniques, from sculpture and painting to photography, sound
installations, street art and environments, sticking together in a visually functional body. The identity of this organism was defined all along 2022, through exhibitions (in Venice, Bucharest) produced under the aegis of the collective creative character,
Beatrice von Babel.
