The Mask Wants To Come To You

The mask of a mask is a mask. But who am I and, above all, who are you; that question is a mask itself.
Beatrice is happy to invite you and your friends to the Space in Progress

this Saturday, 7 February 2026
5-10 pm
Paleologu str. 18, Bucharest

flat state

After two years of practicing unlimited potentiality in all kind of forms and materials, at any time two ot more artists meet in performing painting, the BvB Space in Progress changes its frequencies.
Pace and energy transform and level quietly. The surface may apparently be still, but actually the zero state prepares for a significant turn of visions.
The deep black hole is now covered by a thin white membrane.

the body of beatrice

Beatrice once came from Babel and never intends to return to Babel. Beatrice stays in the world among us, being a synonym for inspiration.
The Body of Beatrice is a collaborative body of works appearing from thoughts, experience, discussions and insight on painting.
Each BvB workshop is a celebratory event of togetherness in all stages, a ritual of confronting limits without loud declarations.

For two years now is the HQ in Bucharest a place of meeting and painting and constructing inside the BvB BLACK HOLE, a permanent installation becoming each day even more compact.

babel likes beatrice

Performing installation as work in progress at the edge of individual inspiration and the collective collapse, BvB invites you at the HQ, Paleologu str.18 from 5 to 10 pm on the weekend 3-5.10.25

BvB offers sound, electronics and dance/movement performances each evening from 7-10 pm.
Happy to be part of NAG (White Nights of the Galleries) in Bucharest and happy to celebrate together with you.

outside mural

UZUC is a marginal industrial area in Ploiești, Romania. Marginal today are as well some types of production and technologies. The silenced industry would be replaced step by step through clamorous art. A variety of huge murals bring back vivacity to the town of renowned cultural personalities of the recent past.

ARTOWN NOW invited Beatrice von Babel to perform wall painting (16.-23.08) alongside other Romanian and international artists.

PISICA Pătrată, LOST.Optics, ANCA Muresan, GILES Eldridge, ROBERTA Curcă reinvested half abandoned architectures with intensity and enthusiasm. Transforming precarious twilight situations into joyous artistic mystery, Beatrice von Babel keeps questioning the imposed order, the hierarchies of perception and general expectations. Conventions ask for exceptions; for instance, the alphabetically reversed order of the names corresponds to the atypical, surprisingly fruitful collaboration of different to opposite autonomous artists.

Artown Festival Ploiesti open for the public, with events and guided tours each weekend 12.09 – 12.10.2025

Sant Erasmo

There are moments of stillness worth expressing because of the deep connecting with a place or a person. Since March 2024, Beatrice von Babel explores the silence of Island Certosa, placed in the vicinity of the Venice Biennale.
Introspection became a main principle of knowing oneself as a unity, and recovering an honest perception on nature.
If the island does not need art, maybe the artist needs an island. Artists, musicians and theorist friends of Beatrice spent quiet days in the Venice Lagoon, moving from one island to the other.
IRINA Matthes made drawings on the island Sant Erasmo, and JOSE Nahuelpan worked this July with plants, constructing three objects facing the lagoon.

oncoming ongoing

The body of works by Beatrice continues to expand on canvas and paper, via collaborative painting and drawing in Venice, Düsseldorf and Bucharest. The fruitful exchange of ideas and stylistic positions reveals unexpected images and dynamics.
At the BvB Space in Progress in Bucharest you are welcome to perform painting alongside Lost.Optics, Pisica Pătrată, Anca Muresan, Roberta Curcă, Giles Eldridge and other artist friends.

isola, enter the role

In one combined and ever evolving installation, there is an island for each and everyone. Maybe each one of us is already an island for all the others.
Suppose there would be an island of one’s own, and happiness would perfectly surround it. The same isolation would occure as if the island would be surrounded by sadness. Who knows; surely there is more than one answer.
Beatrice invites you on Friday, January 31th 2025, to view the ongoing installation and be a part of it.
8 pm “enter the role”, performance by Otilia Panainte based on a script by Anca Muresan

Through self-experience and discussions among each other Giles Eldridge, Lost.Optics, James Kirwan, Anca Muresan, Baptiste Bersoux, Narumi Saso, Roberta Curca, Sylvie Roulin and others aspire to express own vision in a collective work of art on PARADISE-ISOLATION.

Comic art book

THE LAST SHORT STORY OF BEATRICE GOING TO BABEL / THE FIRST SHORT STORY OF BEATRICE COMING FROM BABEL inon-formal comic book in progress. The seemingly abstract story underlines the collaboration between opposites and suggests funny moments even in difficult situations when dealing with each other.

The publication is expected to be released in September 2024 by Qualitaner publishers.

Open studio

ISOLA CERTOSA is a protected island in the Venetian Lagoon. BvB invited several international artists, historians and performers to experience the unique situation of a silent and peaceful Paradise in the middle of the most obvious contemporary art–tourism-holiday triumvirate.

The ongoing OPEN STUDIO on Certosa started on 17th April 2024, and is based on direct, subjective observation in situ concerning non-spectacular epiphanies that each of us can have, when prepared for introspection.

Headquarter

Beatrice von Babel started in  2022 as a collaborative dynamic organism of independent artists. Since 2023 BvB has had the status of a non-profit foundation, aiming to encourage and sustain connections between different fields of international art. From November 2023, BvB has been organising monthly events in a performative SPACE IN PROGRESS in Bucharest at Paleologu str. 18 (except during the summer vacation).

Public mural

IN TURN is the ongoing BvB mural at the Goethe Institute in Bucharest, and can be viewed in different stages of its metamorphosis in the Pavilion 32 on Calea Dorobanți str. 32, during the opening hours of the library (except during the summer vacation). This wall painting marks the first mural collaboration between Lost.Optics, Pisica Pătrată and Anca Mureșan. Works on paper by Giles Eldridge, Irina Matthes and Bernd Kastner were integrated into the installation from March 2023. The mural continues to evolve in a flexible way under the institutional circumstances and based on the dialogue between its authors.

Book release

The Goethe Institute Bucharest hosts the launch of the first two volumes EFFI & PYM and PYM.EFFI by Beatrice von Babel in the context of the mural created by Pisica Patrata, Anca Muresan, Lost.Optics. The mural in the Pavilion 32 is part of the exhibition Under the House produced by BvB Foundation in collaboration with the Goethe Institute, the French Institute and ARCUB, Bucharest.

The artist talk will be attended by: artist Anca Muresan, author Caius Dobrescu, gallerist Dan Popescu. Introduction dr. Joachim Umlauf.
